SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

This clinical center is located in the south-central region of the United States. It is affiliated with the University of Texas at San Antonio and the Texas Urology Group. Its principal investigators are Ian M. Thompson, Jr., M.D. (Texas Urology Group) and Michael Liss, M.D. (University of Texas).

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

This clinical center is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is affiliated with the University of Washington and its principal investigators are Daniel Lin, M.D. (University of Washington) and Dr. Laurence Lee (MagForce USA).

SARASOTA, FLORIDA

This clinical center is located on Cattleman Rd. in Sarasota, FL. Its principal investigator is Dr. Osvaldo F. Padron.

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS

DR. IAN THOMPSON, JR.

Dr. Thompson received his undergraduate degree from West Point and his M.D. degree from Tulane University. After a residency in Urology in San Antonio, he completed a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Thompson has published almost 700 scientific papers and previously served on the Cancer Centers Parent Committee (Committee A) of the National Cancer Institute, President of the Society of Urology Oncology, President of the American Board of Urology, and Chair of the Residency Review Committee. He currently serves as Chair of the Genitourinary Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group and is a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Cancer Institute. He has been continuously funded by the National Cancer Institute since 2000.

DR. MICHAEL LISS

Dr. Liss received his medical degree from the Medical School of Wisconsin and his residency training at the University of California at San Diego. He completed a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the University of California at San Diego and a Masters of Applied Science in Clinical Trials. Dr. Liss currently serves as the medical director of the clinical research at the University Hospital and is Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

DR. BRIAN MAZZARELLA

Dr. Brian Mazzarella grew up in Austin and completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas. While completing his degree, Dr. “Mazz”, as he is often called, worked part-time as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He then attended The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his surgery internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and his urology training at the renowned University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Mazzarella practices in all areas of urology, caring for male and female patients alike, including the treatment of kidney stones, enlarged prostates as well as prostate and kidney cancer. He is extensively trained and highly experienced in robotic surgery. He is active in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and testosterone issues and has a particular interest in male fertility concerns. He is also a leading surgeon in UroLift, a minimally invasive procedure that treats BPH symptoms, and has been recognized as a UroLift Center of Excellence.

Dr. Mazzarella also serves as the Director of Clinical Research for Urology Austin and can provide the latest in cutting-edge care. He serves as an Affiliate Faculty Member for the Dell Medical School. Dr. Mazz has traveled extensively, both nationally and internationally, to teach surgical techniques to his colleagues.

DR. DANIEL LIN

Dr. Lin received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and his residency training at the University of Washington. He completed a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Lin is the Chief of Urologic Oncology at the University of Washington’s Department of Urology and a urologist specializing in genitourinary oncologic surgery. His clinical and research interests include genitourinary oncology, early detection and prevention and basic research. He is Principal Investigator of the Canary Prostate Active Surveillance Study and is the Organ Site Chair of Prostate Cancer for the Southwest Oncology Group.

DR. LAURENCE LEE

Dr. Lee received his medical degree from the University of British Columbia and his residency training at the University of British Columbia Hospital and a fellowship in Urology at UCLA. Dr. Lee is currently a dedicated Urologist at MagForce USA in Seattle, WA. His clinical and research interests include urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, and developing new surgical techniques for genitourinary procedures. He is the former Chairman of the Department of Surgery for Central Washington Hospital and the President of the Section of Urology for the British Columbia Medical Association.

DR. OSVALDO F. PADRON

Dr. Padron is a fellow of the American College Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology. Dr. Padron received his medical degree from University of Miami. After which, he completed a six-year urology residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial hospital where he served as chief resident his ­final year.

He then was awarded a prestigious fellowship at the Cleveland clinic with Dr. Anthony J. Thomas one of the originator’s of microsurgery in United States. This fellowship advanced his knowledge and skills in all areas of male infertility and andrology. Dr. Padron began his private practice in 1996 specializing in male infertility and andrology.

In addition to being on faculty at the University of South Florida, Dr. Padron has written several textbook chapters on the topic of male infertility and has contributed numerous peer review articles to the surgical literature in such journals as the Journal of Urology, Fertility and Sterility, and the Journal of Andrology frequently quoted in the press. Dr. Padron has demonstrated his techniques to surgeons in United States and abroad. Dr. Padron has interest in Female urology, Robotics and Erectile Dysfunction.

DR. GERALD GRUBBS

Dr. Grubbs received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and his residency training at the University of Tennessee and a fellowship at the Baptist Hospital of Miami (Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute). Dr. Grubbs is currently in private practice and is the Director of Radiology at Vituro Health (focusing on HIFU). His clinical and research interests include angioplasty, iliac stents, and treatment for ischemic stroke.
